I love school visits!
I offer engaging, interactive, and educational workshops and presentations about illustration and storytelling.

As a freelance illustrator and book designer of children’s picture books and chapter books, I love sharing more about the illustration process and leading interactive activities to get the kids engaged in storytelling and creative thinking. I lead drawing exercises to help kids build confidence in their own art skills. And I also offer a glimpse into what it takes to be an art-centered entrepreneur! We discuss the skills it takes to “be your own boss” : resilience, persistence, and the willingness to keep learning new things.

"The kids were so excited after their workshop with Cyndi. They kept talking about the drawings they made and sharing what they created with their other teachers. Cyndi offered some wonderful tips and guidance for their own illustrations that I can definitely see them integrating into their own projects."

Offerings Include:
Storytelling Through Illustration:
(45-55 minutes; best for 3rd-5th graders; best for groups under 40 kids)
This includes an overview of the illustration process for children’s books (how I storyboard, design characters, and go from sketches to color) including a multimedia presentation with images, videos, and interactive elements. We do an interactive activity creating a short 4-panel story together, as well as a drawing exercise learning to draw simple facial expressions.
Custom Workshop:
(Flexible length: ages K-12; best for customizing a workshop around what you're already learning in class!)
Let’s work together to create a workshop best for your group! This a great option if you are looking to customize a short program for a group younger than 3rd grade or older than 5th grade. (For example, I customized a program specifically for 5th graders learning about graphic novels, focused on storytelling through panels and conveying emotion in art.)
